He grabbed a can of dog biscuits from the pantry, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise silent kitchen. The dog, a German Shepherd, was a regular visitor to his property. His reflection in the window showed a man years older than the one he used to be.

He remembered the endless summer days, when life was uncomplicated and full of dreams. The feeling of the sun on his face, the taste of salty sea air. He thought of the beach he used to go to with his friends, and how they would spend all day building sandcastles. A wave of melancholic sweetness washed over him.
