The flickering candlelight danced across the room as Ethan, seated on a creaky stool, meticulously sorted through the belongings of his great-aunt Eleanor, a woman he barely remembered. He’d volunteered to help the family clear out her estate, a task that stirred up a feeling of warmth within him.

He carefully lifted out an old photo album, its cover adorned with pressed flowers, and flipped it open. The family lore had always painted Aunt Eleanor as a spinster, a quiet woman who dedicated her life to her church and community. The pictures, however, told a different story.

One photo showed her, on a sunny beach, laughing alongside a handsome man. Another, from the same album, captured her in a formal dress, dancing at a grand ball. The contrast was startling. Ethan felt a warmth in his chest as he imagined the life that had been hidden from him.
