Gemotions

The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, a constant irritation that echoed the mood brewing inside of Maria. Across from her, Emily, her replacement, was radiating enthusiasm. It was making Maria feel ill.

“Okay, so the first thing is the daily report…” Emily began, but Maria interrupted her with a sigh.

“It's all on the intranet. Just follow the links." She looked pointedly at her watch. The hour felt like an eternity. She knew the job like the back of her hand, but she would not offer assistance, not one iota.

She busied herself with rearranging pens and pencils on her desk, avoiding any further engagement. As Emily clicked her way through the system, Maria simply watched, her face a mask of indifference.
