Gemotions

The sun beat down on the backyard as Samuel pulled the old trunk out from the shed. His grandmother had always been a packrat, and now it was his job to get rid of her belongings. He was in no mood for this.

He forced himself to open the trunk, bracing himself for the onslaught of sentimentality he was sure to find. He was not going to be swayed by anything. He would not. He stared at a stack of neatly tied bundles of school papers.

He recognized his grandmother’s signature on the top paper. He started to read. He wasn't going to get attached. He was not. He tossed the paper back into the trunk. He would sort it later. Much later.
