The orchids, exotic and expensive, sat on the dining room table, a symbol of their complicated past. Richard felt a knot in his stomach when he saw them. He felt a flush go up from his neck. He felt like his heart was doing flip-flops.

The sender was clearly sending a message. He hated the games, the unspoken words. He glared at them. Who did they think they were? He felt the familiar anger that always accompanied their interactions.
