Gemotions

The doorbell rang, and Clara nearly leaped with joy. She bounced over to the door, a huge smile on her face. Her niece, Lily, was here! She couldn't help but feel the thrill of the day ahead as she hugged Lily.

She glanced at Lily’s backpack, already imagining the drawings Lily would create during their special afternoon together. This would be a welcome distraction. She had been dealing with a few difficult situations lately. But today, none of that mattered.

Clara had seen Lily's pictures before; they always brightened her day. There was always a recurring character in the corners of them, a figure with a kind face and a mischievous smile. The tiny figure looked hauntingly familiar, but she could not place why.

"Let's get drawing!" she exclaimed, a warmth spreading through her chest. This day was filled with promise.
