From her vantage point, the rejection letter seemed blurry, but the words were clear enough. Sarah had poured her heart into the application, convinced this scholarship was the key. Nevertheless, the tone of the response was quite the opposite of her hopes. A breath escaped, but her shoulders remained relaxed.

She imagined the faces of the friends she had planned to surprise. She'd get them the things she had wanted to buy them, somehow.

She rose from her chair, and walked over to her guitar, her fingers already itching to strum a chord. She needed to start thinking, start moving, start doing.
