“I promise I’ll do all the work, Ben! You won’t have to lift a finger!” Chloe exclaimed, bouncing in place. She felt a lightness within her, a giddy feeling that she couldn't contain.

Ben remained steadfast, his arms folded. “Chloe, we both work long hours. Who's going to care for the lizard?”

Chloe imagined the terrarium, the tiny claws, the cool touch. “It will be so cool! Imagine the conversations! We can name him… Reginald!” Her eyes sparkled with the image of it, making her feel giddy.

She thought of the joy of watching him bask in the light, the calm quiet of his presence. She could almost feel him there already, just a few feet away.
