“Look, I understand your reservations, Alex, but just think about it from my perspective!” Michael said, the enthusiasm bubbling from his very core. He paced around the small apartment, his gestures large and sweeping.

Alex, sat on the couch, arms crossed. “It’s about space, Michael! And responsibility!”

Michael's smile widened. “We can build a huge enclosure! And I will take care of everything, I swear!” A plan already formed in his head. The sight of a pair of bright eyes, watching him through the glass. He felt like his life was on the cusp of a great adventure.

His mind was already constructing a perfect world, a world where the tiny friend made everything better. The very air around him seemed charged with possibility.
