Gemotions

The neighbor, a Mr. Davies, approached Leo with a frown creasing his brow. "That old fir," he began, gesturing towards the towering tree, its needles carpeting the ground. "I want it gone."

Leo’s chin lifted, his eyes sparkling with an unusual energy. He felt an inexplicable lightness. He felt as if he could lift off the ground. He clasped his hands behind his back and rocked on the balls of his feet.

"Ah, the fir," he said, his voice brimming with enthusiasm. "It's a beautiful tree, isn't it? Such a lovely presence! We could certainly talk about it. But maybe, before we do anything rash, we could look at other possibilities?"

He found himself imagining all sorts of wonderful things. He envisioned the tree providing a cozy habitat for wildlife, and how the cones could be collected for crafts. "Perhaps we can work with it? Maybe the best solution would be to make the tree even more beautiful! What do you say?"
