Her breath hitched in her throat. She re-read the email, the words mocking her efforts. “We regret…” The coldness of the message sent a shiver down her spine. The world around her seemed to tilt. Liam, always the golden boy, had secured the role. This was beyond disappointing.

She stood abruptly, pushing back from the table. The chair scraped across the floor, the sound a sharp crack in the silence. Her hands shook as she grabbed her car keys. She needed to drive, to get far away from this feeling of being utterly and completely dismissed.
