Heavens, the nerve of him! David tossed the dish towel onto the counter with an aggressive thud. Mark was at it again, rambling about getting a goldfish. A goldfish! In their meticulously clean, minimalist apartment? The very idea was preposterous. He could practically feel his blood boiling.

He spun on his heel, his voice rising in pitch. “A fish? Mark, are you serious? The responsibility of a living creature, even a tiny one, is not something to be taken lightly! We already barely manage to keep the plants alive.”

Mark just shrugged, fiddling with the remote. "Relax, Dave. It'd be easy. Plus, it's a goldfish. They're... calming."

David felt a flush creep up his neck. Calming? This was a direct insult to his intelligence, to his carefully curated peace. He inhaled sharply, composing himself to deliver a more biting retort. It was absolutely infuriating.
