The news felt like a betrayal. John's face was a mask of cold fury. He clicked off the email, the screen black like a tomb. His jaw was so tight he could feel the muscles strain.

He sat for several minutes, paralyzed by the information. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples. He imagined walking into the office and confronting Robert, but quickly discarded that thought.
