"Just jump in," the project lead in the IT department had said. The phrase echoed in Liam's ears, but it sounded more like an order to leap from a cliff. He hovered at the edge of the new software system, terrified to make a mistake.

He started clicking around, trying to familiarize himself with the interface. His fingers felt clumsy, unsure. He felt a bead of sweat trickle down his temple. Everything was new, complicated, and fast-paced.

He retreated to the coffee room, the noise of the server room and open office, the clatter of keyboards, and rapid chatter was too much. He leaned against the wall, taking deep, shaky breaths, trying to quiet the internal clamor.
