He felt trapped, a fly caught in a web of obligations. He should be at the office, meeting with clients, finalizing the deal. Instead, here he was, at a garage sale, feigning interest in dusty furniture. A sharp throb pulsed behind his temples. He needed to get away, to breathe. A sudden, jarring clench in his stomach. The air around him seemed to thicken, making each breath a chore. Then, his gaze landed on a familiar form.

There, nestled amongst a pile of chipped teacups, was Theodore. His old, beloved bear. He froze. His mind short-circuited. He couldn't process the sudden surge of emotions. His knuckles whitened as he gripped his briefcase, the leather digging into his skin. His breath hitched as it seemed like his throat was closing up.

"Five dollars," the woman running the sale announced, her voice a distant hum. Five dollars. For a piece of his childhood, for a flood of memories he hadn’t allowed himself to revisit in decades. He had to have him. He reached for his wallet, his hand trembling.
