Gemotions

The silence of the library pressed in on her, suffocating. She sat rigid at the table, the laptop displaying the cruel results of the DNA test. Her throat constricted, making it difficult to swallow. Tears blurred the screen. She didn’t know who she was anymore.

She looked around the room, at the other students and the stacks of books, and felt completely alone. A wave of dizziness washed over her. She gripped the table, knuckles white, as the world began to spin. She had to get out, to breathe, to escape the suffocating weight of this new reality.

She stood abruptly, overturning her chair, and fled the library, abandoning her bag, her books, and the life she had known.
