The music blared from the speakers, a soundtrack to the chaos. He’d volunteered to set up the sound system, but a small voice inside was telling him to retreat. He felt trapped.

Sweat beaded on his forehead as he fiddled with the wires, the instructions for each function blurring together. The sheer weight of the expectation, the pressure to make everything perfect for both events, was making it hard for him to breathe.

He wanted to scream.

He glanced around the room, people bustling around, each with their own needs and questions. It was all a little too much.

He found himself wanting to disappear.
