The letter felt like a physical weight in Emily's hands. She barely registered the words; it was the implications that hit her like a punch to the gut. She dropped onto the floor, her back against the cool wall, her breathing shallow and ragged.

Her mind raced, a chaotic jumble of thoughts. The potential for higher rent, the endless paperwork, the disruption to her routine… it was too much. Her hands were ice cold. Her heart was racing.
