The room seemed to shrink as Ben finished his sentence. The walls closed in, and the air turned heavy. He couldn’t look at Liam, couldn’t process the information. He felt a hot flush creep up his neck. He wanted to scream, to lash out, to deny the reality of it all. He balled his hands into fists.

He wanted to argue, to debate, to find a loophole. He felt his face contort with an emotion he couldn't name. He felt a sudden, urgent need to pace, to move, to do anything to release the pressure building inside him. He started walking, pacing back and forth across the small room.
