The sudden emptiness felt like a physical blow. He stood there, legs feeling unstable. This was planned. Someone wanted to hurt him. He felt his heart rate increase, his breath becoming shallow.

He looked up and down the street, expecting to see something, someone watching. The houses appeared too normal, too quiet. The sun felt too bright on his skin. He didn't like this. He hurried inside and shut the door.

He kept glancing through the curtains, his pulse still racing. Every shadow, every movement in the periphery, seemed to be a threat. He needed to be safe, now. He felt the cold sweat.
