The afternoon light filtered weakly through the blinds, casting long, distorted shadows across the room as Susan stared at her daughter's phone. She had stumbled upon it accidentally and something wasn't right. Something felt hidden.

Her breaths came in shallow gasps. She kept replaying the images in her head, the unfamiliar faces, the cryptic messages. Her heart hammered against her chest. The air in the room seemed to thicken, making it difficult to breathe.

She felt a desperate need to understand what was happening, to know what her daughter, Maya, was involved in. The fear gnawed at her, a constant ache. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was being concealed from her.

She gripped her own phone, her fingers hovering over the dial pad. Was she overreacting? Maybe it was nothing. But the doubt lingered, a dark cloud hanging over her.
