The park, once a haven of happy memories, now felt like a labyrinth of unseen eyes. He’d tried to re-establish contact with David by meeting him at the spot where they used to play as kids. David looked at him blankly. The rejection was like a physical blow.

He kept glancing over his shoulder, as though expecting someone to jump out. The trees, their leaves rustling in the breeze, seemed to whisper secrets. He saw a man sitting on a bench, staring intently in his direction, he decided to retreat. Every shadow felt suspicious, every sound an unspoken threat. He walked faster and faster.
