He found himself staring at the reflection in the mirror, searching for something, anything, that felt familiar. The way she had looked at him, the way her eyes had widened in apparent confusion when he mentioned the treehouse, sent a shudder through him. He washed his face, his movements jerky, the water cold against his skin. He felt a tremor in his hands. He kept reliving the conversation. He had to be sure. He grabbed his phone and started to scroll through his contacts, and deleted his social media. He needed to understand. He felt as if he was falling into a dark abyss.
