The relentless to-do list, the pressures of the day - they seemed to melt away the instant Alex found himself among the yard sale's jumble. He had woken up this morning with a clean slate, and the thought made him smile.

He browsed the items with a quiet enjoyment. The sight of a familiar object made his heart skip a beat. There, propped among a collection of old games, was the bear. The stuffing was coming out of its side, a button eye was missing, but there it was. His old friend, from so very long ago.

He bought it. He looked at it, held it, and a pleasant warmth spread through him. He found a quiet corner in his garden and sat in the sun, breathing deep.
