Gemotions

The soft glow of the fireplace cast dancing shadows on the living room walls. The scent of pine and cinnamon filled the air. A book lay open in my lap, but I wasn't reading. I was just staring at the flames, absorbed by the hypnotic movement. A slight thud broke through the tranquility.

"Oh, Buster," I murmured, a smile playing on my lips. I set my book aside.

I opened the door and walked into the cool evening air. I walked towards the fence and led the dog back to his yard. I gave him a scratch behind the ears, and went back to the warm fire, and the quiet of the night.
