The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he sipped his coffee on the porch swing. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the ancient oak in his front yard. He’d just finished watering his prize-winning roses, their vibrant colors a feast for the eyes. He had the local paper spread open in his lap when the headline caught his eye: "Former Family Home Listed for Sale." A property address, familiar as his own name, stared back at him. He took another slow sip, the warmth spreading through him.

He clicked on the link. The listing photos flickered on the screen. The kitchen, once bustling with his mother’s cooking, looked remarkably unchanged. The old wallpaper in the living room, faded with time, still evoked memories of his father’s booming laughter. A smile stretched across his lips.

He closed the laptop, a sense of quiet contentment settling over him. He thought of that swing set in the backyard, how he and his sister would swing for hours, lost in their own worlds. A smile danced on his lips. He rose from the swing and went inside to bake a batch of his grandmother's cookies.
