“Extraordinary,” she murmured, her voice laced with amusement. The geneticist was explaining the case, another person with Wilson’s Disease. The odds, she knew, were astronomical.

A sense of euphoria, unexpected and strong, washed over her. It was a shared experience. A common language. The loneliness that had followed her for so long was slowly dissipating.

She tapped her fingers on the desk, the rhythm mirroring the excitement bubbling within. Suddenly, the future didn’t seem so daunting. She felt an almost overwhelming desire to help, to connect, to simply *be*.
