Gemotions

The squeal of tires outside snapped David out of his concentration. He knew exactly what it was. He set down his book, a grin slowly spreading across his face.

The beagle, Winston, was at it again. This time, he was sniffing around the newly planted herb garden. David knew his garden layout. He had considered the dog's penchant for adventure.

He opened his back door and called, "Winston! Get!" The dog, startled, looked up and started to turn, and David had predicted this move. He had already laid a trail of dog treats leading straight back to his yard, where the fence had a loose plank. He let Winston lead the way.

David's chest filled with a strange warmth. He saw the neighbor, Mrs. Davis, on her porch, looking a bit flustered. He made a mental note to offer to help her out next time, and gave her a slight nod.
