The small space felt suffocating. Marcus, however, felt a strange sense of exhilaration. He had trained his whole life for difficult situations. His recent solo hike up the mountain range. He had planned for every eventuality.

Across from him, his new colleague, Susan, was visibly anxious. Marcus found himself assessing the situation. He’d already identified the emergency exit, the backup power supply. He felt a surge of energy.

He began, calmly, to explain how the elevator probably worked to Susan. He’d prepared for this kind of situation. He wasn't surprised. He knew he could handle anything.
