The realtor had talked about the "interesting history" of the house. John thought it was just the usual real estate agent blather. He was now, however, staring at a collection of old files he found while clearing out the attic. They were sealed and labeled, "Confidential."

He hesitated, then ripped open the seal. Inside, he found police reports, witness statements, and crime scene photos. The photos showed a scene of violence, a room he knew intimately, the master bedroom. He couldn’t look away. The details of the crime were horrifying. The victim, the perpetrator… his house.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of dread. He ran a hand through his hair, his pulse quickening. He wasn't sure if he should call the police or destroy the files. He felt a sudden urge to get out of the house.
