Gemotions

Maya stared at the red "C" scrawled across her biology midterm. Her palms began to sweat, and a knot formed in her stomach. She’d spent weeks studying, poring over the textbook and practice quizzes. She even stayed up late, helping classmates with the material. She reread the questions, searching for some clue as to where she'd gone wrong, but the answers seemed to make sense.

She found herself walking towards Professor Davies’ office. The hallway seemed longer than usual, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead like judgmental insects. When she reached the door, she took a deep breath and knocked, her knuckles rapping against the wood.

"Come in," a voice called out. She took a step in, and sat down at the chair.
