Her breath hitched in her throat. He'd been in the bathroom for an absurd amount of time. She'd heard muffled voices emanating from within. The water was running, masking the sounds, but she was still certain.

She stood outside the door, her hand hovering over the handle. She imagined the scene inside, the possibilities churning in her mind. Her head spun.

A wave of nausea crashed over her. She pressed her hand against her forehead, trying to steady herself. The bathroom door finally opened, and he emerged, his face carefully blank.
