The lawyer had called; she needed to clean out her parents’ old house. The whole business had been a blur. Now, she was here. The box was in the basement, tucked away behind the water heater. It was heavy, and it sent a cold shiver down her spine when she first lifted it.

Inside, old toys, a book with pressed flowers, and a diary. The handwriting was hers, but the words… they were a stranger's. She kept staring at it, her mind a blank canvas. She felt a growing sense of unease, as if she were on the precipice of something terrible. She needed air, and immediately.
