Gemotions

The wedding was lovely. Everything was just as it should be, and she hated it. The music, the food, the people - all pleasant and expected. It felt wrong to have this perfect scene, while her insides were churning. The butterflies she felt were not the celebratory kind.

She found him standing near the bar, talking to the bartender. His back was to her. He seemed completely at ease. She felt a lump forming in her throat.

She took a long sip of her wine. The alcohol burned, but did nothing to numb the sudden ache that had started in her chest. Everything had changed, but not in a way that she had wanted. The familiar feeling of inadequacy, the sense that she was not enough, resurfaced with a vengeance.
