Gemotions

The vibrant balloons, once a source of joy, now seemed deflated, like her own spirits. It was her birthday, and it was supposed to be a surprise party. Except everyone she knew would be celebrating with Liam at his karaoke night.

She took a deep breath, the scent of the bakery filling her lungs. The cake, a decadent chocolate masterpiece, sat on the counter, untouched. It felt strange to be alone, surrounded by all this fanfare.

She rubbed her arms, suddenly chilled. She thought of the shared laughter, the inside jokes, the years of friendship. All of that, seemingly, gone in an instant. She found herself staring blankly into space.
