Gemotions

The radio blared from the open window of the dusty attic. Liam, rummaging through old boxes, froze. A song he'd written in his youth, "Sunrise Serenade," was playing. His heart began a frantic tattoo against his ribs. It was a song he’d thought buried, a song he'd practically forgotten.

He sank to his knees, dust motes dancing in the sunlight that streamed through the window. The singer’s voice, a sweet, clear soprano, was worlds away from his own rough vocals. It made the old song sound, somehow, even more innocent than he remembered it being.

He had always intended "Sunrise Serenade" to evoke a feeling of hope. He considered its message, now, from the perspective of an older, wiser man. A gentle smile touched his lips, as he recognized how he had grown, and changed. The attic, once a sanctuary of his youth, now stood as a marker of the passage of time.
