The old trunk in the basement, musty and forgotten. It was where she found the notebook. He’d always kept everything neat and tidy, but she, she was more curious. The list was written in a formal, almost impersonal hand. "Climb Mount Kilimanjaro." Her husband, John, was terrified of heights.

She sank to the floor, her back against the cool, damp wood of the trunk. The items on the list were both inspiring and deeply unsettling. "Learn to play the piano." She had known him for decades, or so she thought. A dull ache settled in her stomach, a heavy weight that seemed to grow with each passing moment.
