The drive had been arduous. The traffic, the rain, the looming sense of failure. But as Sarah stood on the threshold, keys dangling in her hand, the oppressive weight that had been on her shoulders lifted.

The house, surprisingly, was tidy. Her mother’s meticulous nature, usually a source of irritation, was, that day, comforting. "Welcome home, darling," her mother said, her voice unusually gentle. "I made your favorite, lasagna."

As she ate, a slow warmth spread through her. The arguments, the frustrations of the past, seemed less significant. She felt a lightness in her limbs, a freedom she hadn't known she craved.
