The scent of lavender from the diffuser filled the air as Chloe lay on her bed, scrolling through her phone. Her limbs felt heavy and comfortable. The task of going through her mother’s things was finally underway. She'd been putting off the job for weeks, now the day had arrived.

She yawned, stretching her arms above her head before reluctantly heading downstairs. The first few boxes were filled with knick-knacks and old clothes. Easy enough. Then, in a large trunk, she found it. A vast collection of folders, each carefully labeled with dates and subjects.

She opened the first one, her eyes widening. Inside were all of her art projects from kindergarten, each perfectly preserved. A chuckle escaped her as she flipped through the pages. She found a drawing she did of her cat. The image brought a smile to her face.
