Gemotions

The evening air was cool against Daniel's skin as he sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak of the chains a comforting sound. He’d finished all the yard work, washed the car, and had finally decided to tackle the one remaining chore: sorting through his mother’s belongings in the storage unit. The job, once seeming overwhelming, now felt like a leisurely activity.

He drove to the storage unit, a sense of well-being settling over him. He opened the first box and saw things like old board games and photo albums. He got through a few boxes quickly. Then, he came across a collection of plastic bins. They contained his school work. Every single assignment, from his first attempts at writing to his senior year thesis, meticulously saved. He picked up one of his old essays, and began to read it.
