The late afternoon sun warmed Maya’s face as she leaned against the oak tree, watching the other girls practice their routines. The air buzzed with the chatter of excited voices and the rhythmic thud of the tumbling mats. A gentle breeze stirred the leaves overhead, creating a soothing whisper. She'd been certain this would be her year to make the Varsity squad. The thought still hung in her mind, a little disappointing, but she’d take a moment to enjoy herself. She closed her eyes, letting the sun’s embrace wash over her. It was a good day, after all.
