Liam was sprawled on his hammock, the gentle swaying lulling him almost to sleep. He'd just finished a long, tedious day at work, and the thought of nothingness filled him with contentment. The air was thick and heavy, carrying the scent of honeysuckle from the nearby bushes. His phone vibrated on the small table beside him. Another friend request. He grabbed it, intending to ignore it. The name on the screen made him sit up a little straighter.

It was Sarah Jenkins. She'd been a terror in middle school, always making fun of his stutter. He felt a familiar knot tighten in his stomach. Why now, after all these years? He stared at the screen, the notification still blinking.

He let out a long breath, and slowly brought his thumb to the 'Ignore' button. He paused, fingers hovering. A strange urge, a pull toward the unknown, made him hesitate. He had grown so much since then. Maybe she had too. With a shrug, he pressed 'Confirm.'
