Gemotions

The door creaked shut as he stepped inside, leaving the crisp autumn air behind. He walked over to the mail box and pulled out a handful of items. A colorful birthday card with no name on it was wedged between a bill and a magazine. He smiled, amused. He set the card on the counter.

He then decided to light a fire in the fireplace, the crackling flames offering a sense of warmth and peace. He settled onto the sofa, a blanket drawn up to his chin.

The smell of burning wood filled the air, mingling with the gentle sounds of the fire. The world outside the window seemed distant and unimportant. He simply watched the flickering light, content in the moment.
