"Ah, finally," Sarah murmured, sinking into a plush armchair in the library. The afternoon sun slanted through the tall windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She’d spent the morning battling with the heavy boxes, the physical labor leaving her feeling pleasantly weary. She felt a peaceful quietness.

She’d just finished cataloging her favorite books, the familiar scent of old paper and leather filling her senses. A sense of calm settled over her as she surveyed her new domain. She felt a sense of ownership, of comfort. The world, for the moment, was perfectly still.

She picked up a worn volume, tracing the faded gold lettering on the spine. A faint click made her jump. She looked up, and noticed the bookcase behind her, seemingly solid, had shifted slightly. A secret door opened, revealing a dark recess.
