The hammock swayed gently, a rhythmic counterpoint to the chirping crickets. Amelia stretched, her fingers reaching for the fading sunlight filtering through the oak leaves. She’d spent the afternoon reading, the book now resting face down on her stomach. A perfect day. A glint of metal caught her eye. Partially buried near the base of the old oak, a rectangular box. Weird. She didn’t remember any construction or landscaping happening here. Curious, she knelt, brushing away the loose soil with a practiced hand. This was her property; she knew it intimately.

The box opened with a rusty groan, revealing a collection of tarnished treasures. A faded photograph, a cassette tape with a handwritten label, and a small, leather-bound journal. Where had this come from? A wave of gentle confusion washed over her. She picked up the photo. A younger version of herself, smiling widely, stood next to a boy she didn't recognize. A giggle escaped her lips.
