The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the bakery, but it did nothing to lift David’s spirits. He sat alone at a small table, the uneaten croissant a testament to his lack of appetite. The disagreement with Mark, about the business deal, had left a void in him. Mark insisted that he'd been the one to go back on their word, that he’d sabotaged the agreement.
