Gemotions

The rhythmic click-clack of the train lulled Eleanor into a meditative state. She leaned her head against the window, the vibration a gentle massage. It was Friday; her favorite day. She knew the route, the stops, the faces of the other commuters. A familiarity that was as comfortable as her favorite armchair.

Her gaze drifted to the man across from her, Mr. Finch. He was reading a newspaper, as always. But today, something was different. The newspaper was a thick broadsheet, folded meticulously, and as he turned the page, a flash of something shiny, a huge diamond ring, caught her eye.

He looked up and gave her a small smile, and she smiled back, her lips pulling back from her teeth in a way that had been long unpracticed. He looked as comfortable in the carriage as she was. He was just another one of the ordinary people she encountered on her daily commute.
