Rain lashed against the windows of the cafe, a rhythmic drumming that soothed Elias. He settled into his usual corner, the comforting aroma of coffee filling the air. He’d spent the morning wrestling with a particularly difficult coding problem, and his brain felt fried. He needed a distraction. He’d picked up a well-loved copy of "Moby Dick" from a used bookstore earlier that week, and now he finally opened it.

A folded letter tumbled out, revealing a faded photograph tucked inside. A young man, barely older than Elias himself, grinned back at him, holding a fishing rod. He chuckled at the image. The letter detailed the man's adventures, his youthful exuberance leaping off the page. Elias felt a slow, pleasant burn in his chest. A warmth spread through him as he imagined the life it spoke of, a life full of possibilities. He took another sip of his coffee. He was in no hurry to return to the world.
