Gemotions

The old, worn swing set creaked gently in the wind. He sat on it, looking out at the overgrown field. They had spent countless hours here as kids, he and her. He’d followed her here. She'd been with her family, a picnic basket at their side. Her face had been turned away.

He had started walking towards them, but she didn’t see him. The sun felt warm on his face. The breeze carried the scent of wildflowers. He watched them leave, then remained seated. He smiled slightly, a small curve of the lips.
