The air in the bedroom was heavy, thick with the memory of their grandmother. Amelia felt a tightening in her chest, a pressure that made it hard to breathe. The scent of lavender, once comforting, now felt cloying and intrusive. She ran her hand over the faded floral bedspread, her fingers tracing the delicate patterns.

She heard a rustle from the closet, and her breath hitched. Her gaze snapped towards the dark opening. Her mind was already conjuring specters, shadowy figures lurking in the dimness.

She told herself it was just the wind. But the rustling persisted, louder now. She took a step back, her heart leaping into her throat. She found herself frozen, unable to move, trapped by an invisible force.
